Hope you are enj...AssalamAlaikum My dearest Sister

Hope you are enjoying and benefitting greatly from this blessed month of Ramadan.

First of all, I really want to thank you for sending these wonderful links and helping me with a better understanding of my religion.

Recently, mama (sadia) and I have this concern about makeup products- especially creams and lipsticks. We got this awareness from a sister who once refused to wear lipstick at a party. upon questioning her why not, she gave us insight into the idea of these certain makeup products (these high multinational brands like sephora, Avon, Mac...etc) containing extracts from animal products- particularly pigs which is haram for muslims to not only consume but use. lipsticks are the main issue as we apply them directly to our lips and it can easily be consumed (accidentally).

My concern is, as I don't really have any contact with scholars here (I tried searching online but didn't find much or didn't know where to begin), the following:

1) Pig is haram for sure, and is it still haram if it undergoes certain chemical processes when it is refined and chemically changed for industrial purposes?

2) If certain makeup products dont contain pig fat...but still contain extracts from other animals...is that okay to use?

I would really like to be enlightened on this matter as it is really bothering me. We have stopped using lipsticks for the time being.

Jazak Allah KhairAlina Ahmednoreply@blogger.com
