This course is designed to help students acquire beginning communication skills within a culturally significant context. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

• - Communicate orally using basic Arabic, i.e., know greetings, ask for directions, talk about themselves, family, food, daily activities and the weather.
• - Understand basic Arabic spoken slower than normal pace and develop skills and coping strategies for filling in the gaps.
• - Gain cultural knowledge and awareness about the cultural and linguistic contributions and influences of the Arabic world toward the development of civilization.
