Friday sermon: Muslims must seek knowledgeThis week’s sermon urges Muslims to seek knowledge and education.
“Education and scientific research have provided the human race with noble service and great benefits. Communication is now made easy, and people are living in luxury,” the sermon reads.
The reason people have developed is through knowledge.
Allah has ordered Muslims to seek knowledge, as written in the Holy Quran: “Recite in the name of your Lord who created – Created man from a clinging substance – Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous – Who taught by the pen – Taught man that which he knew not.”
“These verses have been a motive to mankind to go in the way of science and learning its research in all its section and then apply practically what they have learnt,” the sermon states.
The sermon mentions the many fields in which Muslims have progressed by seeking knowledge. It mentions scientists such as Al Khawarizmi and Al Razi, who studied and contributed to chemistry and mathematics. More importantly, knowledge allows Muslims to know about their Creator.
“What is greater than the knowledge that leads to the right path. Through knowledge we know Allah and fear Him,” the sermon read.
“So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allah and ask forgiveness for your sin and for the believing men and believing women. And Allah knows of your movement and your resting place.” [47:19]
Those who believe in Allah realise that He has signs in the universe, and created semantics. Those who look for the signs and considered them, concluded that there is no God but Him and grows his faith.
“Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], ‘Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.’” [3:191]
