BETWEEN CALLIN SOMEONE.ALOO,BUDU OR VOODOO ADMI THERE IS A DIFFERENCE
LET US LEARN WHAT IS PLEASING TO ALLAH AND USE THE RIGHT NAME OR KUNYA INSHAllah!
name of a person or object. The female equivalent is Umm X, Mother of X.For example, Umar bin al Khatab, had the kunya of Abu Hafs, Father of Hafs, even though he didn't have a child by that name, nor did Abu Bakr, another companion, have a child called Bakr. It is not uncommon that a kunya be termed with something that is not a name. For example,
Abu Huraira, meaning father of the cat, may be a reference to that particular sahabi's (companion's) love of felines or ownership of them as pets, or in other cases it may be a reference to some sort of inside joke.
There is a hadith stating that the Prophet (SAW) said not to name people the same as his kunya. Some scholars interpret the hadith to be a strict order to never name a person with the same kunya that the Prophet Muhammed (SAW) had, while most others can see that the reason
the Prophet gave this advice was to reduce confusion during his lifetime to stop his person being mistook for someone else in conversation. This is the hadith:
Narrated by Anas Bin malik that the Prophet (SAW) was in the market when a man called another with "O Abu al-Qasim" so the prophet turned around answering thinking it was him whom that man meant. So the man said: I was calling another man (who had similar Kunya). Upon this the Prophet (SAW) said: "Name yourselves with my name (Muhammed) but do not have as my Kunya" [Sahih Bukhari]
As for Laqab, it is that which a person is described with, whether its disparagement or praise. For example in Arabc custom if one see a who limps, they will use the opposite to call him . (_never the limping one ) instead they will say Muhammad Ghundar(the good looking) or the healthy one , or if they see a bling man they will say the seeing one etc,, , this is called a Laqab. Any word that you add to a person’s name and sounds like a praise or disparagement is called a Laqab. Therefore, this is the difference between a Laqab and a Kunya. So Abu Hafs is a Kunya. ‘Umar bin Khattab, Ameerul-Mu’mineen ibn Nufayl, this is the name of his grandfather. Ibn ‘Abdul-‘Uzza Bin Riyaah Bin Abdillah Bin Qurt Bin Razaah Bin Adiyy Bin Ka’b Bin Lu’ay Bin Ghaalibin Al Qurashiyy Al ‘Adawwiy, he is from bani Adiyy, from Quraysh and he is ‘Adnaani so, his lineage meets with the prophet’s lineage.
